Description: This model arose from a project to evaluate the cost of a health care access' program to provide comprehensive medical care to uninsureds in Minnesota, for the Minnesota Health Care Access Commission. The project was to provide estimates of the impact on per-person and aggregate costs for various participation percentages in the access program. In order to evaluate those costs, the antiselection model described in this was developed. Of note, this was the ACTUARIAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH FUND 1991 PRACTITIONERS AWARD WINNER. Description: The purpose of this article is to provide a high level summary of the paper “Variance of the CTE Estimator” by B. John Manistre and Geoffrey H. Hancock that appeared in the North American Actuarial Journal in 2005. The authors also expanded on some of the results.

Description: 2004 SOA Spring Meeting, Anaheim, CA. In this session panelists presented an overview of underwriting processes for a variety of product lines. They also discuss related topics such as identifying keys to underwriting decisions, the cost of underwriting and protective value, and ensuring consistency with pricing assumptions. Some of the underwriting tools discussed were use of RX history, credit checks, DMV history, and fraud data bases.

Description: 2011 SOA Enterprise Risk Management Symposium, Chicago. The stated purpose of this paper is to consider whether a more comprehensive and timely measurement framework for risk exposure is now needed and to examine one possible approach. This paper proposes a new approach to risk measurement that, along with capital measurement and more rigorous oversight, will allow banks an ability to manage risk.

Description: This paper looks at the problem of valuing and managing the ALM risks associated with insurance liabilities that are too long to be matched by available investments. Two options were explored and the paper concludes by arguing that the Static Control Model leads to more useful ALM strategies for long liabilities.

Description: This research report on retirement risks and solutions for the middle market was presented in a webcast by the Retirement Income Industry Association. The market was identified, profiled and risk assessed. Then the needs and challenges were assessed and solutions were were offered.
